Brown Pelican

I have a wonderful memory of watching the pelicans trailing the boat and picking up scraps of fish from a day of fishing with my brother off the California coast. They are so completely elegant on the air and in water, and humorously clumsy on the dock. It's fascinating to watch them hover, then dive for fish, and scoop them with their pouch-like bills. I have depicted this one contentedly at rest.
